Memoirs of a Geisha got bad reviews for its acting, script, horrible adaptation, and bad directing. It got nominated for all technical awards, things for which it found a lot of praise. Its score, for one, was very good (when is John Williams not good, though?). From what I've read, everything about Nine is getting panned, including its art direction, cinematography, the song (unforgettable is what I hear most often), and costume design. ...Those are things that should be getting a ton of praise as a big Hollywood musical. But they're not.

If Oscar nominates Nine just because they "want to have a big Hollywood musical," it will be a truly pathetic sight.

There are those who want a big Hollywood musical to factor in the mix. Lord knows I'm one of 'em, but not this vile thing. Memoirs of a Geisha may have been a failure, but it was a noble one.

They'll probably nominate Nine's garish costumes and maybe one of its disappointing songs, probably the tacky Kate Hudson number, but anything else will strictly be friends voting for friends regardless of the quality of the work.

I Think Avatar and Nine will be nominated for cinematograhpy.

You guys think that the oscars will snub Nine. I don't think so. I even believe it could be nominated for best movie, supporting actress, song, cinematography, production design and even sound.

Rob Marshall is very respected, remember the very bad reviewed Memoirs of a Geisha with its 6 nominations. And Dreamgirls (which I found very cliche and over dramatic).

I think the academy WANTS a hollywood musical to be in the list. It won't win any awards but it will be there for show.
