For the people confused about what The Secret of Kells is, please let the mystery remain one. I watched it this morning and, while I regularly expect that category to be unpleasant, I wasn’t expecting this to be as bad as what I saw.

Anyone catch the TV spot for the Awards? It’s probably on the Oscar.com site as well. Steve Martin looks and acts like the guy in a rubber old man mask dancing up and down in those Great America commercials. I am so not looking forward to this show.

I think the fact that The Hurt Locker tied Avatar for 9 nominations, including more nominations in top categories (screenplay and actor), really gives it a boost over Avatar, despite Avatar’s momentum box office-wise.

The Secret of the Kells was given a brief Oscar qualifying run in L.A. in December. It has its “official” opening in the U.S. after the Oscars.

It was nominated for The European Awards 2009 in the Best Animated Film category, however it did not win…

I’d heard of The Secret of Kells… I actually have a copy of it that I’ve been meaning to watch. I heard very good things, but I didn’t think it would get an Oscar nomination, especially considering the fact that practically no one has seen it

Doesn’t mean I know what it is, but there you have it.

I had it down for a nomination for awhile, but when I kept seeing The Hangover and Star Trek get mentioned, I pulled it from my list. I guess my initial hunch was a correct one. Ah well, so go the hazards of predicting.

WTF is “The Secret of Kells”?????
February 2nd, 2010 - 08:57
How does The Blind Side get a Best Picture nomination? Huh. I just didn’t see that coming.
