Favorite Oscar Moments, Part XIII
Our Oscar Favorite Moments series continues in our thirteenth outing with an Honorary Oscar presentation, a shocking outfit and a surprise winner.
Peter J. Patrick
1969, 42nd Academy Awards
Maggie Smith is the surprise Best Actress winner for The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie, besting second generation Hollywood favorites, Jane Fonda (They Shoot Horses, Don’t They?) and Liza Minnelli (The Sterile Cuckoo).
Wesley Lovell
1985, 58th Academy Awards
Appearing at the Academy Awards in 1986 to present the Best Supporting Actor of 1985, Cher was her effervescent, shockingly-attired self. Dressed in a rather alarming, midriff-bearing outfit designed by Bob Mackie, she drolly intoned "As you can see, I did receive my Academy booklet on how to dress like a serious actress."
Tripp Burton
2005, 78th Academy Awards
It was a long-over due Oscar, and we were all waiting to hear what he would say. We weren't expecting a brilliant presentation and a touching confession of having had a heart transplant no one knew about.
