   I haven’t seen The Swimmer, although I love the short story.

      I had never read Cheever’s short story, but found it on line today and now have read it. The movie changes a few things and adds a few stops along the way, but I’ve always liked it. Lancaster’s performance is interesting and follows the stylized allegorical premise of the story. I think it was Lancaster’s personal favorite. I’m also a fan of Frank Perry’s work in the 60s: David and Lisa, The Swimmer and Last Summer are stand outs. The Swimmer is worh checking out.
