5 Favorites #35: 5 Favorite Modern Directors

Every week, we’ll pose a new “five favorites” question. You just list your five favorites that fit in that category (preferably in preference order) and you’re welcome to discuss and debate the selections and see just how much you do or do not have in common with others. If you want to take a look back at our past articles to comment or enjoy, here is a post set aside to track all of our articles.

Closing out our director poll series, we arrive at the last two decades of movies where influence hasn’t yet been cemented fully by history. Now for your favorite Modern directors (1990’s & 2000’s)

  1. Alejandro Gonzales Inaritu
    Ang Lee
    Fernado Merilles
    Julien Shcanbel
    Neil Blankamp

  2. Paul Thomas Anderson
    Darren Aronofsky
    Hayao Miyazaki
    Quentin Tarantino
    Christopher Nolan

Those are in no particular order.

  3. I tend to gravitate towards the directors who put their own unique touch on each film.
    Alfonso Cuaron
    David Lynch
    Quentin Tarantino
    Hayao Miyazaki
    Paul Thomas Anderson

  4. Tim Burton (my favorite …although a bit weak in the 2000´s)
Steven Spielberg (Schindler´s List, Jurassic Park and Private Ryan are among the best films of the 90s)
    David Fincher
Christopher Nolan (after Inception….I love this man)
James Cameron ( Terminator 2, Titanic, Avatar….he always tops himself)

  5. Tarantino
    The Coens
    PT Anderson

    1. Although I only excluded Altman because he belongs slightly more to the previous era, and Del Toro for the opposite reason

  6. I won’t repeat previous selections of mine, so Martin Scorsese is not included only for that reason

    Joel and Ethan Coen
    Clint Eastwood
    Paul Thomas Anderson
    David Fincher
    Christopher Nolan
