Props to the advertisers for realizing the star of this film is the hatchet itself and not the wilder. While we could have expected more along those lines, I'm doubtful anything more than the choices made would have worked.
Michael Myers had the kitchen knife. Freddy Krueger had razors on his fingers. Jason Vorhees used anything he can find. Now, we have a new slasher who uses a hatchet. With the brief glimpse of Robert Englund (Freddy) and a mention in the film details of Kane Hodder, it's clear that we're witnessing an attempt to resurrect the horror genre without relying on remakes. Unfortunately, the premise doesn't seem very exciting or different.
Wes Craven, John Carpenter, Clive Barker and Stephen King will have won pulitzers before the Academy will recognize a horror film.
I have not seen this film.
