I am certainly not a documentary fan. I like several but dislike just as many. Operation Homecoming looks like the kind of documentary that could easily bridge the audience gap (much like March of the Penguins did). Using real footage alongside animation, the film has potential mainstream appeal.
This is the kind of film the Oscar documentarians could jump on. It tackles a subject that's a tough sell but makes it appealing, perhaps encouraging more people to see docs. That may be enough to earn it an Oscar nomination and maybe even a trophy.
I have not seen this film.
