What this poster lacks is visual style. Sure there are plenty of characters frm the film on it, but the poster is otherwise unimpressive. Sure the colors are bright and somber when necessary, but there's nothing magical here.
There's no question it looks interesting. The question is whether it will be more like the miniseries Merlin or The Adventures of Baron Munchaussen. I'm sadly leaning towards the latter but hope for the former.
Hoping for the best and expecting the worst is probably not the formula for an Oscar contender but if this film suddenly moved out of August into November or December, we might expect an Oscar contender in several categories. As it stands now, I'll be surprised if it even cracks the Costume Design or Art Direction cats.
A fantasy adventure like The Adventures of Baron Munchausen with a romantic subplot and too many villains.
