The poster is quite simple, but effective. It doesn't go overboard in imagery and it isn't overly vacant. With the right blend of color and composition, we have a design that is somewhat pleasing to the eye while evocative of the film's themes.
The breathtaking vistas are just one reason to contemplate catching this film. While I can imagine an overly-moralizing pic about finding oneself, there are elements to the preview that make the film seem more intriguing than it probably is.
I could see a Cinematography nomination, but I'm a bit reticent to crown Sean Penn the newest actor-director to earn an Oscar nod. The Academy won't connect as easily with a film that's predominantly about only one character and one that also features Vince Vaughn.
Exploring the identity of oneself with a counter-culture narrative is at times lazy and at other times compelling.
