Preview: The Secret Life of Bees (2008)

Review:

Honeycombs are not a surprising choice for the poster, but it's a decent bit overbearing. On top of that, the five actress-blend separates things a little, but not enough.

Review:

This could either be an interesting movie like In the Heat of the Night blended with Fried Green Tomatoes or it could be a significant disaster. There's some strong talent in the film, but Dakota Fanning looks quite a bit out of her depth, which may hurt the film if the rest of her performance isn't better.

Oscar Prospects:

There's little doubt that there will be a moderate push for this film to earn Oscar nominations. With three past Oscar nominees and one of them a winner, the film looks more Oscar baity than good. Critics will ultimately sink this one, but there could be an unexpected surprise if they actually like it.
