While the poster is perfectly fitting the story it presents, it is a little too unobtrusive and does very little to engage a finicky audience. The promise of an American fairytale is hardly encouraging.
Rotoscopic animation makes a fearful return in this film where the only thing that looks interesting is Tsai Chin's performance. Otherwise, this modernistic Cinderella tale is unnecessary.
English-language film pulls it out of Foreign Language competition and that should be it for the film's Oscar chances. However, it could be a submission to the Animated Feature category, but like A Scanner Darkly and Waking Life before it, it isn't going anywhere.
I have not seen this film.
