Looking like a copycat blend of every new homeowners' horror film in the last 40 years, Mirrors is about as likely to succeed based on this underwhelming trailer as Uwe Boll is to earn critical praise. It will draw the typical horror audience, but it won't be the success that The Strangers was.
This new trailer definitely makes the film look better than The Strangers, but the problems that have creeped into the film are plot-related as a number of story elements seem cribbed from The Shining. Instead of a caretaker, it's a nightwatchman. Instead of the caretaker's son talking to his imaginary friend in his finger, the nightwatchman's son talks to his imaginary friend in the mirror.
Oscar? Horror? To most Academy members that would be a horrific idea.
I have not seen this film.
