Rather simple, the one redeeming quality of the poster is its warm hues. We know from the preview that the film is about a father of Old World sensibilities trying to come to a common ground with a daughter with Modern charms, but much of that isn't seen in this poster.
There are some significant problems with the trailer, doing very poorly in conveying the fish-out-of-water side of the story. However, that may be just what the doctor ordered. From the director of The Joy Luck Club, I do expect some poignant family drama and a solid performance from Henry O but the trailer doesn't give enough of that impression.
Featuring a good amount of English dialogue and made by a director who has made a number of American films with Asian characters, I doubt this would qualify for the Foreign Language Film award and the Academy isn't as big on foreign actors as we might wish for them to be.
I have not seen this film.
