The trailer made this film seem like another attempt to find comfort and humor in the face of the oppressive Nazi regimes of World War II. This film, though portraying Czechs as one of many groups marginalized by the events, looks to be a more upbeat version of Life Is Beautiful, a film which largely fails.
Depending on the marketing and the bizarre behavior of the lead actor in the media, it could be a contender for Foreign Language Film. It's the right genre and the right style for Academy's rather boring and reserved Foreign Lingo branch.
I have not seen this film.
