If not for the trailer, the poster might seem a bit overbearing. However, when paired with viewing the trailer, it becomes a little more interesting. The stylization of the poster seems a bit more colorful tonally and doesn't rely on the black-white-and-red motif that would have more succinctly followed the trailer, which is a significant positive in my book.
What has become characteristic of Frank Miller's style, the 300 and Sin City creator's continuing to abuse the visual arts in ways that evoke emotions from the audience. While they are stunning to look at, the substance is where you really have to judge the film and sadly, none of that is featured in the trailer. So, the jury's still out on this one.
Despite there being nothing resembling a clever plot, the trailer is visually stunning, creating a rich tapestry that certainly fits into the originality of Frank Miller's previous films. However, there's little doubt in my mind that this will be just as disappointing as the other two films. A pleasure to look at, but a severe disappointment.
The more and more I see, the less and less it looks interesting. While the only thing keeping me in line to see it at this point is the stylized visuals, I'm not holding out hope for a strong, resonating plot.
If there are more physical sets than displayed in the film, I could see this one being touted for a Cinematography nomination, but since neither 300 nor Sin City managed that feat, I sincerely doubt it. Otherwise, the film is going to come up bankrupt in the awards department.
I have not seen this film.
