A more inventive design than I would have expceted for a Dumb and Dumber-style comedy. Using the old style family portraits many of us remember having gotten at Sears or Olan Mills (I don't even know if that's a national company or something local), the poster evokes a nostalgic look at a more mainstream lifestyle.
That homespun attitude invoked by the poster is entirely lost in the preview, which plays just like every other adults-as-children comedy and reminds me of all the reasons I dislike what Will Ferrell always was and what has become of John C. Reilly. These two have a modicum of talent, the latter more than a modicum, but they seem to be wasting away their days in lame comedies targeted at the audience that made films like Dumb and Dumber and Ace Ventura a success.
The second trailer for this film is up and it's an age-restricted one viewable only through itunes. It at least makes the film seem less santized and more funny, but there isn't any improvement on the quality of the film, which makes it seem like a throwaway mid-summer comedy that will do good business in spite of its lack of importance.
It would be as laughably stupid as this film's premise to suggest this film would compete for Academy Awards.
I have not seen this film.
