I like the visual symbolism of the ritualists' "power" rising up to the whale. It matches the theme of the trailer just fine, but I can't see this enticing anyone to the theater.
I'm a bit confused by the introduction of Julian Lennon. If the trailer really is about a group of people hoping to save a group of endangered whales through use of ritual, then Lennon's presence seems at odds unless it is merely meant to follow the train of thought that since his father was a peace lover, he is too and thus is qualified to have input on the project. However, he is merely the producer, so his appearance is probably to lend a little extra credence to the subject. The problem is the trailer isn't very exciting and doesn't seem to point to a theme that very many people would enjoy watching.
With so many documentaries floating around this year on controversial subjects, I doubt that the Academy would see this film and say "there's one of this year's Oscar nominees, hands down."
I have not seen this film.
