Not terribly inventive and fairly bland. It's certainly nice to see a use of less vibrant colors, but it doesn't really help the film when it's stagily set in an empty silhouette.
This looks like the small film that could do wonders with critics if it were released at the right time of the year. Certainly it is releasing in the right spot, but critics may be reminded too quickly of Gone Baby Gone, which, while not exactly similar in theme, is quite similar in style. That could turn some of the off. However, Mark Ruffalo looks fairly good, Amanda Peet seem to give a rather forceful performance and Ethan Hawke looks better than the last film I saw him in: Before the Devil Knows You're Dead.
With such a crowded race, big names or independent iconoclasts are the only ones really with any chance of nominations, though from this trailer, it looks like at least Peet could be a contender if critics would take notice.
I have not seen this film.
