POSTERS

Preview: The Wrestler (2008)

  • Poster: B; B

Review:

It's a simple, resonating image that, were it not for the critic notice at the top of the poster, would be a terrific symbolic representation of the film's plot and character.

There is very little difference in this second poster. It is the same image but with a different way of displaying the title, critic praise and star information. That alone does not make it better or worse.

  • Trailer: B

Review:

With Darren Aronofsky at the helm, it's possible the film could have been awful as he has a rather sporadic track record. However, the film looks a lot more mainstream than many of his past films, which could only increase the seriousness and quality of the picture if he can direct his energy in the right direction.

Oscar Prospects:

Not only is Mickey Rourke in heavy consideration, but the film looks like to be right up the Academy's alley in terms of pseudo-biographical champion resurrection stories. Rourke is almost guaranteed a nod for this.

Mickey Rourke is profoundly good and the film almost matches him.
