Obvious. Painfully obvious. They are trying to sell the film on Jim Carrey. It's worked in the past and I can't fault them for it, but could they have been more original and less reliant on his almost-trademarked goofy grin?
The trailer reminds me a little of Liar, Liar, a film where Carrey put his comic talents to a more subdued project and managed to turn out a surprisingly mature performance. Far from his spectacular work in Man on the Moon and The Truman Show, this film looks like it might be one of his more down-to-earth roles in some time. Good or bad, at least he's not doing Ace Venture: Dumb & Dumber Edition.
Even though the trailer seems longer, it doesn't seem like there's anything new. It still looks like the same film it had previously, adding only a few more interesting snippets that suggest it isn't entirely your typical slap happy Jim Carrey movie.
If there were fewer Hortons and Snickets between the Liars and the Trumans, Jim Carrey might strike gold, but there aren't, so he won't.
I have not seen this film.
