Review:

Both posters display events from the film taht characterize easily what the movie's about. They aren't terribly inventive, however.

  • Trailer: B+; C-

Review:

Although we meet none of the film's stars and we're treated only to a brief wall of water crashing into an monastery, the trailer is a bit thrilling in the way that the first trailers for Independence Day and The Day After Tomorrow made you excited. Sadly, it's Roland Emmerich so it may very well be crap.

Did I say crap? Well, I was right on the money as this new trailer cements the idea that this is little more than a "let's watch things get blown up, destroyed and mutilated while a flimsy, pathetic story goes on between action/destruction shots". I don't expect anything out of this movie after watching this trailer. I'll still probably see it to watch stuff get annihilated, but that's about the only reason and is probably the only reason most people will go watch it.

Oscar Prospects:

Releasing in the middle of the Summer blockbuster season could help or it could hinder this film which is likely to feature some of the largest and most talked about visual effects of 2009. A nod there and possibly in Sound Effects and Sound Mixing could be possible.
