Preview: Amelia (2009)

Synopsis:

A biopic of the famed aviatrix Amelia Earhart and the trials headed up to and including her famed attempt to fly around the world.

Review:

I give this credit for being symbolically relevant; however, it is just a shot of some clouds (albeit ones through which Amelia Earhart probably travelled) and a title. Not too exciting.

• Trailer: B+

Review:

Stronger than most biopics seem to be of late, Hilary Swank is a strong presence on the screen and alongside Richard Gere, we could be looking at a very strong film. The production values look superb at least.

Oscar Prospects:

This could be the film that finally puts Mira Nair on the map. She's done solid work previously, but it has always been so centered on the Indian culture that it hasn't been embraced by the Academy. This film already looks like a strong contender for not only nominations, but also wins in several categories including Picture, Actor, Actress, Director, Screenplay, Score and most of the techs.
