Preview: American Violet (2009)

Synopsis:

A young black mother is arrested for drug dealing despite not being involved and she slowly discovers that the county government is pushing her prosecution because the more they convict of drug trafficking, the more federal money they receive. She doesn't lay down and promises to fight back even when it puts her family situation at risk.

Review:

This is one of the better attempts at connecting multiple images from a film into a poster. The color and layout is what makes it work more than anything. It's still not that interesting and probably won't do much to draw an audience in that the trailer won't.

• Trailer: B

Review:

An interesting premise and certainly one that will appeal to more audiences than one might expect. The performances aren't showcased very well in the trailer, but it could easily provide some of the year's best.

Oscar Prospects:

Without seeing it, I don't know how much of an impact it will have on the Oscars. However, it's April release will surely stunt any growth the film might have in that area.
