Preview: Big Fan (2009)

Synopsis:

A football fanatic whose life is far from blissful encounters an idol of his at a nightclub where he ends up beaten to a pulp, but refuses to take action against the player for fear of his team losing games.

Review:

The look of depression in Patton Oswalt's expression is enough to propel this poster into being in the above average group, although it is far too simple and not very detailed.

• Trailer: C+

Review:

Oswalt has been an underappreciated actor for some time and this trailer looks to continue that trend as I doubt it will be seen by very many, even though it's a sports flick. The difference here is that it's not about a challenging game or a compelling professional athlete, but is simply a moribund tale of depression and obsession.

Oscar Prospects:

I would love to say Oswalt is a contender for a Best Actor nomination, but I doubt that will happen. However, I could see the film going over well with some critics groups and perhaps even the Spirit Awards.
