POSTERS

Preview: Capitalism: A Love Story (2009)

Synopsis:

Michael Moore's new documentary is about the bailout of the financial sector.

  • Poster: C; B

Review:

The first poster is a bit boring. It lacks the visual pizazz that have often made Michael Moore's film posters exciting.

The second poster is much more like his usual, but it's not nearly as humorous as the one used for Sicko and it really isn't as exciting as I would have hoped.

  • Trailer: D+; B+

Review:

Moore has seldom ever not relied on humor to accentuate his aims and this trailer is no exception. However, since many of his critics say he's at his best when he's not hamming for the screen, this trailer won't alleviate any of those concerns. Matter of fact, even though I like his documentaries, I don't really care much for this trailer and it has nothing to do with the sentiment or politics behind it. It's just not that funny and is far too self-indulgent.

Well, they won't be able to say he plays favorites as this film seems to take direct aim at the Democrats as well as the big banking firms. Still, the information he presents is certainly evocative and important, so it bears watching.

Oscar Prospects:

Now that Moore has broken the glass ceiling and earned two Oscar nods, expect this one to also pick up a nomination for Best Documentary Feature. But, if it's too much hamola and not enough substance, they could just as easily ignore it for any number of strong docs this year.
