Paul Giamatti plays himself as he seeks to alleviate his emotional distress by having his soul ripped from his body only to discover that without it, he seems even more hopeless and thus he begins a massive journey trying to locate his now-missing soul.
Russian stacking dolls are of particular interest to me, so I like the concept of the poster, as the layered approach to understanding the human soul is a strong one. However, the colors and design aren't as interesting as the concept.
The trailer fails in a number of ways, the least of which is bringing up that this film is a comedy and not presenting anything terribly funny. While I can expect that from typically idiotic comedies that involve a lot of situational and slapstick humor, this is a more intellectual type along the lines of Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind or Being John Malkovich, two films after which this one is obviously modeled.
Unlike Eternal Sunshine, this film isn't likely to make waves with the Oscars and earn more nominations than expected. And I really expect none for this film.
I have not seen this film.
