Preview: Donkey Punch (2009)

Synopsis:

A group of young women on holiday are invited aboard a large yacht where one of them is killed and the rest are on the chopping block.

Review:

Splitting the poster in half or thirds or any combination of fractions never does a poster much good. Here, I understand the purpose, separating water and the yacht above it, but the broken space creates an uneasy flow from one to the other even with the title literally bleeding into the water. It may fit the plot, but it isn't visually bold.

• Trailer: C

Review:

While the final half of the trailer definitely suggests horror film, the first part is questionable and that may lead audiences into believing they're either seeing something else or that the movie doesn't make sense. Either way, this unabashed horror/terror flick doesn't look as original as the makers probably think it is.
