A Chinese American journalist returns to his hometown in the midst of the Red Scare to discover everything has changed as corruption and violence have become everpresent.
Attempting to make it seem like old-time photgraphs tossed out on a table, the general symmetry, background color and title font don't assist in conjuring up images of the past, thus thwarting any attempt by the creator to do so.
I had to get the plot details from elsewhere as the trailer is almost non-sensical, failing to give any hint of what the plot of the film is. Instead, it wallows in its own cleverness and winks ferciously at the audience as it tries to play itself off as a film noir, a gangster flick and a political commentary simultaneously.
Seldom have I seen a preview so "sure" of itself, so I don't even think anyone will care what happens to the film in the end.
I have not seen this film.
