Preview: The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus (2009)

Synopsis:

Makinng deals with the devil can be a dangerous event, but Doctor Parnassus has not only done so once, but three times and now he races against time to protect his daughter from the devil's clutches.

Review:

So, an imaginarium that isn't very imaginative is not enticing in the least. This poster is dreary and lifeless.

More interesting than its predecessor by quite a bit, this poster is still not nearly as imaginative as I would expect. However the poster does have typical Gilliam flourishes that make it clear that this is his movie and no one else's.

Review:

Conceptually, the idea works, but the trailer is a hopeless amalgam of images that give no real understand of the film. And, adding insult to injury, the credits highlight Christopher Plummer, Jude Law, Colin Farrell and Johnny Depp, but completely ignore Heath Ledger. Seems rather insulting to me.

Oscar Prospects:

This film has been pushed around the schedule so much, I'm not sure what to think anymore. It could very well contend for several design prizes, but at this point, I'm thinking that will probably be it.
