POSTERS

Preview: Knowing (2009)

Synopsis:

A child who had historical disasters whispered to him leaves the information on a piece of paper locked in a time capsule and given to the son of a chaos theorist (Nicolas Cage) who discovers a pattern of disasters and body counts within the numbers and begins exploring the strange "aliens" that may be creating deadly mishaps in the world.

Review:

It looks an awful lot like someone took the alien hand from the War of the Worlds poster and replaced it with burning fire. Both symbolize the end of the world, but neither are terribly exciting. The only positive about the poster is that it doesn't whore out Nicolas Cage's mug to sell tickets.

Review:

There's an interesting concept struggling to get out here, but this is a special effects, Summer-style blockbuster releasing in March, which means either they are trying to bank on Nicolas Cage's early-year drawing power or they have completely lost it. I'm sure it's a combination of both. So, this The Number 23/The Day After Tomorrow combination might not be all its cracked up to be.

What had a promising premise now looks like another in the long line of aliens-influencing the world movies. The trailer look hopelessly abysmal and may make just about as much at the box office as other movies with similarly-styled trailer: Deja-Vu and The Happening.

Oscar Prospects:

It's way too early in the year to be releasing a film for major Oscar contention, so I'd say the nominations will be this film's next big disaster.
