Preview: Séraphine (2009)

Synopsis:

A provincial maid with amazing talent as a painter experiences life through her eyes and through her canvas as those around her marvel in her talent while the art community takes surprisingly little interest.

Review:

Although it's incredibly simple, the simplicity is actually what makes it the most interesting. The colors may seem drab, but they draw your attention to the painting on the floor and really put you in the world of this unremarkable woman.

Review:

Conceptually, the film looks intensely interesting. The production values aren't nearly as strong as one might expect from a César-winning film, but there's enough here to make it more interesting than most of what we're seeing on American screens.

Oscar Prospects:

Whether it's eligible or not, I have no idea, but if this film were submitted to the Academy, I could very easily see it in the running for Best Foreign Language Film.
