Preview: Sex Positive (2009)

Synopsis:

A documentary following the research and works of Richard Berkowitz, a leader in the field of safe sex education at the brink of the AIDS epidemic.

Review:

Marking through the faces of the gay men walking in the image that bottom of the page is an effective display. However, the poster is divided in half by the title and the top half is hardly noteworthy as it features only a half face, presumably of the film's subject which is pushed to the left and three festival selection notices are placed on a blue-black field on the right. None of the four segments of the poster work well together.

Review:

Although it won't be everyone's cup of tea, there is a vast segment of the gay public that would owe itself to watching this documentary, which celebrates the life and work of one of the unheralded heroes of the early safe sex practices movement that has helped reduce the spread of AIDS.

Oscar Prospects:

If the film can hold on until next year's Oscar race, I could see this film getting a nomination. A win is probably out of the question, but a nod certainly could be in the cards.
