Preview: Skills Like This (2009)

Synopsis:

A playwriting failure decides to make money by robbing a bank and getting away with it. The film follows these events, plus his pursuit of love and his attempts to escape capture.

Review:

It's very simple, but its effectiveness relies entirely on the trailer. Once you see that and discover the lead character wears an afro, it seems to fit a bit better, but this is another '70s homage that doesn't quite sync with the film's subject or time period.

Review:

There are elements to the preview that make it seem like it might be an interesting situational dark comedy. However, there are several moments where the makers seem to be going for cheap laughs at the expense of clever plotting.

Oscar Prospects:

Too early and too niche-based to really have an effect on Oscar voters.
