Preview: Tokyo Sonata (2009)

Synopsis:

When a Japanese family begins falling apart after the patriarch loses his job, he must find a new job and struggle to keep his family together.

Review:

A bit too informal. The structure is unchallenging and while the image certainly captures some essences of the film, it doesn't really scream "watch me" or even "own my poster". Both of those elements are crucial.

• Trailer: B

Review:

How do you rate a trailer with no dialogue? This silent exposition require the viewer to watch what's going on and it gives a few strong plot developments, but it won't easily score an audience with this. However, the intelligentsia who enjoy going to independent films and festival circuit players will likely latch onto this film thanks to the trailer alone.

Oscar Prospects:

Another film likely to be forgotten by year's end.
