Preview: A Woman in Berlin (2009)

Synopsis:

A Holocaust drama about a German woman seeking to save Jewish lives.

Review:

At least the title bar is interesting and decorative. The rest of the poster is rather stodgy and unimpressive stylistically. The choice of images does evoke the film' themes at least, which earns the poster bonus points.

Review:

Although the style is strong, the premise being so similar to the many similar films we've seen in recent years after the success of Schindler's List, makes content all the more important. While I'm sure this can't stand up to Spielberg's masterpiece, it doesn't look terribly condescending or immaterial either.

Oscar Prospects:

Germany submitting the film for consideration for the Foreign Language Film Oscar could work out since the Academy seems to be in love with the Holocaust theme, but I don't think it will end up the official selection considering the country's recent trend of submissions.
