POSTERS

Preview: Year One (2009)

Synopsis:

This Harold Ramis comedy stars Jack Black and Michael Cera as lazy hunter/gatherers who are booted from their village and attempt to make names for themselves in the ancient world around them.

  • Poster: D+

Review:

Two "neanderthals" standing side-by-side looking boring and uninteresting. It's like they are emoting the poster. There are primitive cave paintings that are more evocative.

  • Trailer: C; C-

Review:

There is only a limited amount of humor that could be found in this subject and Ramis, though a solid director, may not even be able to save something that looks this ludicrous.

Now that I've seen more, I realize I don't want to see any of it. This lame extended-length sketch comedy film has none of the impact of the sacriligiously funny Life of Brian and pales in comparison to outlandish History of the World, Part I. It will still do well at the box office, but I'm hopeful that it will fall flat. Maybe then we won't be stuck watching so many insipidly stupid comedies.

Oscar Prospects:

I doubt this can make it through to the Oscars even in the tech categories.
