POSTERS

Preview: Yoo-Hoo, Mrs. Goldberg (2009)

Synopsis:

A documentary about the television pioneer Gertrude Berg whose character Mrs. Goldberg spawned much of what we know and expect from television, but of whose name most modern audiences aren't even aware.

  • Poster: B-

Review:

The poster certainly conjures up old images from the early days of advertising and television, but it's not likely to appeal to many who aren't already familiar with the film's subject.

  • Trailer: B+

Review:

I must admit that while the "Yoo-Hoo, Mrs. Goldberg" shout at the beginning was familiar, much of the rest of the information presented briefly in the trailer was unknown to me. And with what is shown, it makes the purpose of the documetnary all the more effective and all the more interesting.

Oscar Prospects:

The trailer and poster both reference the The Life and Times of Hank Greenberg, one of the director's previous efforts, which earned recognition from a number of critics groups, but not from the Academy. This film could rectify that if it is deemed important enough by the documentary branch.
