Preview: The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (2010)

Synopsis:

A Swedish film based on the acclaimed novel about a journalist seeking a woman who's been missing forty years and the young hacker who aides him in his search.

Review:

It's not visually displeasing, but it's not terribly inventive. The missing girl's photo over the mantle is the only thing that really adds to this poster.

• Trailer: B; B-

Review:

The audio on the first trailer is hard to get past. However, the design work and concept is far more interesting than the second trailer.

Putting on the full court press for the film as a thriller, the producers have chosen wisely in portraying this film as more action-oriented than it really is, but that may anger some who go in expecting more.

Oscar Prospects:

Critics seem to love the film, but it's foreign and thriller roots make for a tough sell to the Academy. A lot depends on if the film is submitted for the Foreign Language competition.
