In a desert kingdom, one man must stop various evils from taking posession of a magic dagger that controls time and the sands of the dunes around them.
It's an effective marketing tool. It has just enough flavor from the film paired with pin up Jake Gyllenhaal, which should make plenty of women swoon even if the film isn't that great.
I guess we shouldn't be surprised that Disney would add more detail to its more interesting poster and make it a bit less exciting. They hope that a sensory overload will draw a bigger audience than subtlety.
I could have done without the mention of Pirates of the Caribbean, but I guess it's inevitable. And being a Disney property, the trailer makes this seem more like the two Pirates sequels than the original film. The story presented may seem slightly interesting, but most of the acting in the trailer is substandard and the action sequences aren't nearly as exciting as they should be.
Memorial Day releases have been having a tough time getting remembered by year's end. Still, the film has to be considered a contender for Art Direction, Costume Design, Sound Mixing, Sound Editing and Visual Effects.
I have not seen this film.
