POSTERS

Preview: The Thorn in the Heart (2010)

Synopsis:

A pseudo-documentary about his aunt, an influential teacher and imaginative mentor.

  • Poster: B

Review:

I have never been a fan of crudely hand-drawn posters, but the reason this one works at all is the little section at the bottom where the child is breaking through the image to follow after the string of children running up the streets. The symbolic connection to the story about a teacher encourging her students to break the boundaries of convention is a fitting one.

  • Trailer: C+

Review:

Some of the classic Michel Gondry touches are present in the trailer, which suggests an involvement in its making, but there isn't enough presented in the trailer to make it seem like a film truly worth watching for anyone other than devout Gondry frans.

Oscar Prospects:

If it qualifies as a documentary, it could be considered, but familial sagas aren't exactly the Academy's favorite subjects.
