Preview: White Material (2010)

Synopsis:

A coffee plantation owner in an unnamed African country puts her family at risk to harvest her last crop as rebellion and revolution rages around her.

Review:

I know that I've heaped criticism on films for evoking their titular colors and sometimes even ridiculed them for not using them, but this poster is significantly bland despite using the color white mostly effectively.

• Trailer: B-

Review:

This looks like a more gritty version of Indochine. Isabelle Huppert and Catherine Deneuve are both terrific French actresses, so it could be good, but the trailer doesn't make the film look all that involving.

Oscar Prospects:

It was not submitted for consideration by the Academy for Foreign Language film, so it's pretty much out of the running for anything else.
