POSTERS

Preview: Youth in Revolt (2009)

Synopsis:

An awkward young man discovers the girl of his dreams wants nothing to do with him and develops a secondary personality that should engage her need for a bad boy.

Review:

Michael Cera might very well be a selling point for some audiences, though the cartoonized design work, and the chaotic lower half of the poster are visually unattractive.

The took the base of the first image (instead of a drawn-replica of Michael Cera) and added an explosion and the girl, probably hoping to appeal to a wider audience. Doubtful.

The first signs that a marketing campaign is struggling is when they regularly issue new posters. We have another new one, this time entirely different than the first two. It's one scene from the film, but it's not one of the more interesting or important ones and simply feels out of place.

  • Trailer: B-; B-

Review:

There are some funny elements, but perhaps it's my growing dislike of seeing Michael Cera in just about everything that makes me feel like this film will appeal to a very narrow demographic and ultimately disappoint.

The layers that exist between these two trailers are minimal. There's virtually no difference in the two, which begs the question "why?".

Oscar Prospects:

None.
