The first film in a planned trilogy by director Steven Spielberg and producer Peter Jackson tells the story of a young investigative reporter whose curiosity gets him caught up in a massive adventure.
Unafraid of the dark, Spielberg's poster adds a bit of mysteriousness to the film that should help draw curiosity seekers to the theater.
With all the hubbub surrounding this film, I expected something more compelling. Sure the effects look pretty spectacular, but there's not enough of a story here to be able to tell if the film itself will be worth the effort.
Without re-watching the first trailer, this seems incredibly similar. It's still going to be effective in selling the film even if the humor grates after watching it a few times.
After motion captures was deemed ineligible for the Animated Feature Oscar, Spielberg's film will have to compete in a number of other categories including Best Picture, Best Visual Effects, Best Sound Mixing and Best Sound Editing as well as possibly even Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Original Score.
I have not seen this film.
