Preview: Amigo (2011)

Synopsis:

Set during the Spanish-American War, the film takes place in The Philippines where a small village looks to rebel against it's American occupiers who see them as dangerous militants and not as common folk wanting to live peacefully.

Review:

The poster looks as staged and unrealistic as the trailer does. It doesn't have any popping visuals that would call enough attention to itself to make it an easy sell.

Review:

John Sayles is a gifted screenwriter, so how a directorial effort of his could look so cliched and poorly written is unimaginable. The trailer seems too bright to be very controversial and the performances look so outlandish that the film looks to be an unmitigated disaster waiting to be released.

Oscar Prospects:

If it's better than it looks, it might compete, but I doubt it. Art Direction and Costume Designs are its outside best chances.
