Preview: Beautiful Boy (2011)

Synopsis:

After a fatal mass shooting at an area university, a grieving couple must come to terms with their son's solo involvement in the murder of more than a dozen other people.

Review:

Building on the terrific design of Rabbit Hole, this poster does a less compelling job with its central theme. The portrait of the son should probably be on Maria Bello's side of the bed, but at least they have the physical postures right.

• Trailer: A-

Review:

There's a scene near the middle of the trailer that elevates this grade for me. The film is certainly a compelling narrative and it looks like Bello and Michael Sheen gives outstanding performances, but when the unnamed woman, without a word enters and gives Bello a hug, my emotions get the better of me.

Oscar Prospects:

Releasing in June will unfortunately doom its chances, but Bello and Sheen could make an appereance at year-end critic awards, which would revive their chances at nominations.
