Preview: Beginners (2011)

Synopsis:

A lonely and bland middle-aged man tries to find his way into the life he's never lived after his father reveals that he is gay.

Review:

I fail to see the purpose of Ewan McGregor and Mélanie Laurent appearing in double on the poster while Christopher Plummer does, but that's one of the main reasons why the poster is a failure.

• Trailer: B

Review:

I don't know if the film's going to be very good overall, but the trailer does have some interesting scenes and the actors at least seem like they are enjoying themselves which will make it easier for the viewer to enjoy as well.

Oscar Prospects:

The film itself may end up mostly forgotten, but I think Christopher Plummer could ride a wave of support into an Oscar nomination. However, the June release is going to make it tough and a few critics prizes may be needed to bolster his chances.
