Preview: Gnomeo and Juliet (2011)

William Shakespeare's classic tragedy re-written for warring families of garden gnomes.

Review:

A silly little preview that may get kids giggling, but adults won't be able to stop groaning at the horrendous tagline-pun in evidence.

The terrible puns aren't likely to let up and it's probably not going to get better.

• Trailer: C+

Review:

If the premise seems a bit weird, it is. Obviously, since this is a kids' flick we should expect Gnomeo or Juliet to live happily ever after. Some of the scenes are charming, but others are just wasted opportunities and predictable kid-friendlies.

Oscar Prospects:

Depends on what the competition next year is and whether critics actually like it.
