Preview: The Guard (2011)

Synopsis:

To stop a massive illegal drug smuggling ring, a by-the-book FBI agent is paired with an irrascible Irish cop.

Review:

(For such an interesting-looking trailer, this is such a poorly constructed poster that it isn't likely to bolster attendance.)

I originally reviewed a different poster that was utterly banal, but this new poster is much more interesting, though it reminds me too much of In the Heat of the Night which might actually be their intention.

• Trailer: B+

Review:

Brendan Gleeson will make this one watchable all by himself, but the script seems tight and witty with a lot of fun built in.

Oscar Prospects:

The style reminds me a lot of In Bruges and if it matches that film's quality, a screenwriting nomination could be a possibility.
