Preview: Hell and Back Again (2011)

Synopsis:

A crippled soldier returns home and is unable to cope with life outside of the combat zone.

Review:

Even if this weren't a documentary's poster, this would be incredibly strong, but for a documentary, it's almost top-of-the-heap. Real life reflected through war is a fitting design for the theme of the film.

• Trailer: C+

Review:

Documentaries have lives outside of the mainstream and while the trailer attempts to humanize the story in a way that it will translate well to large audiences, the grim subject matter will still manage to keep most non-doc fans away.

Oscar Prospects:

Any critically acclaimed documentary releasing at this time of year has to be considered an Oscar contender and this might just tug at the right heart strings to at least get nominated.
