Julian Schnabel's fourth film follows a young Palestinian girl as she combats prejudice and persecution to fight for love with a suspected terrorist.
It's a bit disconcerting, but that may be the intention. It's too large and too indistinct. The colors aren't bold or evocative and the concept is weak.
Schnabel is a tremendous talent and nothing in this trailer makes this film seem like a conventional feature, which would be a welcome relief from the standard Hollywood jetsam.
His first film (Basquiat) didn't appeal to the Academy. His second film (Before Night Falls) earned Javier Bardem his first Oscar nomination and start his career as a rising star. His third film (The Diving Bell and the Butterfly) earned four nominations including one for his directorial effort. While I'm not so sure his fourth film will further increase its influence on the Academy, but you should not ignore his talent or potential for Oscar consideration.
I have not seen this film.
